TAOF Cardiovascular Outreach

Advancing Heart Health in Underserved Communities

The Issue

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death in Nigeria, accounting for 11% of total deaths annually (World Health Organization, 2023).

Many Nigerians, especially in underserved communities, lack access to routine screenings, proper diagnosis, and essential medications, increasing the risk of stroke, hypertension, and heart failure.

The cost of healthcare remains a barrier, with over 70% of Nigerians paying out-of-pocket for medical expenses (Nigeria Health Watch, 2023).

Our Approach:

The TAOF Cardiovascular Outreach is a life-saving intervention designed to provide free heart health services to communities in need. The program includes:

  • Free cardiovascular screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood pressure checks, to detect heart disease early.
  •  Medical consultations with healthcare professionals, offering advice on heart-healthy lifestyles and treatment options.
  • Distribution of essential medications to individuals diagnosed with hypertension and other cardiovascular conditions.
  • Health education and awareness campaigns, empowering communities with knowledge on diet, exercise, and preventive care.

The most recent outreach at the New Kuchigoro IDP Camp in Abuja served over 150 individuals, many of whom had never received a cardiovascular check-up before. Moving forward, we plan to expand to more locations, ensuring that low-income and at-risk populations have access to quality heart healthcare.
