Bridging the Education Gap for Underprivileged Students

The Issue

Education is a fundamental right, yet many students in Nigeria face financial barriers that prevent them from completing their secondary education. According to UNESCO, over 20 million Nigerian children are out of school, with many dropping out due to the inability to afford exam fees. The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is a crucial stepping stone for students pursuing higher education and career opportunities, but thousands of deserving students miss out on this chance due to financial constraints.

Our Approach:

The TAOF Exam Fund is dedicated to ensuring that financially disadvantaged students can sit for the WASSCE without the burden of fees.

  • TAOF Exam Fund Covers exam fees for deserving students annually. In the pilot edition of this project, the foundation covered the WASSCE fees of 150 deserving students across 6 educational zones in Anambra State.
  • The application process involves an a scholarship exam in order to select beneficiaries on academic performance in addition to financial need.
  • In addition to the financial relief the exam fund provides, the foundation would hosts career seminars to equip graduating students with insights on career pathways and skill development.

Since its inception, the TAOF Exam Fund has impacted hundreds of students, increasing the number of secondary school graduates and reducing the dropout rate among underprivileged youths.
